Fall Fishing in Naples, Florida
Our first long awaited cold front of the season has moved through the area this week, dropping air temperatures and dew points to the tropical paradise levels we all endear. Water temps will soon follow and that will trigger the fall bite. Forecasted strong winds throughout next week should stir things up a bit and hopefully doesn't cloudy up the waters too much or hold up the tides. Redfish are the top targets this month and they are bunching up in greater numbers as the cool down approaches. Focus on the outer points that have hard bottom at higher tide stages and you should run into your share of redfish. Making a milk run of these outside points is a great way to cover water and find the most active fish. With a falling tide in the morning plant to be on the water as early as possible to find high enough water to access the best points like those in front of White Horse, Hog and Jenkins Keys. Further to the South, redfish will be gathering in the shallow bights south of the Chatham River. As the tide remains low or falls, simply key in on the same areas, but find the deeper troughs and points. In Estero Bay, redfish are taking up residence in the early morning hours on the grass flats, then moving up to the many oyster bars and mangrove shorelines as the tide rises. Find some good current flow on these structures and they should be chewing pretty good....just remember to be a bit more stealthy than usual, as Estero Bay fishes different than the 10,000 Islands for many reasons. Pilchards are still on the small size in both the 10k Islands and Estero, but still usable. Shrimp, Ladyfish chunks and the old shrimp tipped bucktail jig will all take their fair share of Redfish this month. Trout are moving into the area passes in good numbers and certainly into the deeper runs next to outside islands in the 10k Islands and Estero has plenty of just legal sized trout on the grass flats. Jigs and the ole standby popping cork and shrimp are taking fish right now. October is a great month to get out and fish, so give us a call to book your trip today!
