Estero Bay Reds with Friends….

May 23, 2011 - Posted by Steve Dall I had the pleasure of having a few friends from the great white north down for a day here on Estero Bay. Greg, James and Mike made a long weekend out of a business trip and spent the afternoon roasting in the SW Florida sun with me on Saturday. It was a balmy 92 degrees out, with water temps in the mid to high 80's, which makes those fish real sluggish. Our schedule was limited, so we couldn't venture out in the morning to beat the heat, so we tried some shark fishing offshore to start our day, but only saw one smaller 3 foot bull shark wallowing in our chum slick and had another shark tear our mullet in half. After almost 2 hours of that, we headed back in to the bay to flip the bushes and round up some redfish. We managed around a dozen fish and around a half dozen catfish. The guys finished the day with a short dip in the water to cool off and we spent the last hour hunting tarpon in one of our back bay spots, but we simply didn't hook up with one. All in all, great conversation, too many laughs to count, some beers to relax and some bent fishing rods made for a nice afternoon. Until next time, tight lines and screaming drags!
