Hot January and February much of the same!

February 8, 2013 - Posted by Steve Dall January was an up and down month for our fishing charters as we dodged the annual cold fronts and negative tides that this time of year brings. Our mild winter though, has made for much better fishing conditions in years past and we ended January with a solid to great month. We bass fished several charters as well, along with fishing in 2 area Bass tournaments, taking 2nd in one and winning the FTMBC 2-Day Championship on Lake Okeechobee! The amazing part of this tournament was that I caught a 9 lb 15 oz giant on the second day to weigh in my best 5 fish limit which was nearly 20 lbs and that fish clinched the victory for me. February has been stellar and we hope that it continues. As of this writing, we were on the water 6 of the first 8 days with a much needed day off today and the steady water temperatures that have been hovering in the high 60's has brought on some great fishing! On several of our trips, we bagged up several upper slot reds with the honors going to the Penfield brothers this past Wednesday who CRUSHED 8 big redfish on their half day charter, along with a nice variety of Spanish Mackeral, Bluefish, Trout and Whiting. Incoming tide in shallow bays with undercut banks fishing with Pilchards on corks was the ticket. The key was patience and casting accuracy and these guys made it happen. On an earlier trip this week we saw 40 plus big Spanish Mackeral up to 30 inches hit the deck along with some bruiser bluefish. Great drag screaming action on light backcountry tackle. Can't wait to get back out there starting tomorrow!
