Sharks….

While the tarpon are here for another few weeks, some days they simply will not take anything you present to them, whether it be a live threadfin, pilchard, crab, mullet, cut bait or catfish tails. What is nice, is that some sharks, some BIG sharks, have been roaming with them recently which certainly can make it challenging landing a big tarpon. Catching some of these big sharks, Hammerheads, Bulls, Blacktips and Lemons can be a nice way to pass the day if the tarpon are not cooperating. In the event you do hook a tarpon and a large shark pursues the tarpon, please be mindful that a 100 pound tarpon may be 50 years old and is a valuable resource to the sea. One may think that keeping the line tight is the best means to "pull" the tarpon away from a pursuing shark, but the best thing you can do is immediately go to a free spool mode on your reel and allow the tarpon to naturally swim away from the predator. So, have fun with the sharks, but do your best to not allow them to get your tarpon here in Naples, Florida! Be sure to give us a call soon to book your trip as we are filling up fast! Until we battle the fish together, tight lines and screaming drags!
