Phenix Rods
Flashback to ICAST back in July of this year and there I am roaming the endless aisles of the fishing industry's top tackle show that showcases all the new annual releases from endless tackle companies all jockeying for position atop their respective categories, when I come upon the Phenix Rods booth. Phenix Rods have been a staple in my boat for several years now and I had heard rumblings of the new Recon Series that was due to be showcased at the show. I have fished their high end Ultra MBX rods for years and was very excited to learn about the new Recon Series. As I entered the booth, my eyes immediately gravitated to the racks that had the Recon line of rods. They were simply gorgeous. The aesthetics on these rods were some of the more gorgeous rods I have seen. Immediately noticeable were the comfortable EVA grips, split handle or full length depending on the model and the split Fuji reel seats. The sheer light weight of the rod due to the state of the art T-36 ton composite, carbon fiber material blank and the silicon carbide guides with stainless steel frames also immediately made me shiver like a 5 year old on Christmas morning. Now, the price tag. You may be thinking these rods are $250-$300, given that similar components on rods from G Loomis and St. Croix exceed the $300 mark. Not even close. I have never seen a line of rods come in at a mid $100 price point, with the components, aesthetics and performance as these rods do. The Recon series by Phenix Rods currently come in 11 casting and 5 spinning models with the casting models
