FLW Tourament Update and the Summer ahead of us….

This past Saturday, I fished the 4th of 5 qualifying tournaments for the FLW BFL Gator Division and finished in 43rd place out of 200 boats. We caught a pile of fish, but again, I just haven’t been able to get the quality and weighed in 8.5 lbs. While these first 4 tournaments haven’t yielded the results I was ultimately hoping for, my goal all along has been to finish in the top 40 and qualify to fish the Regional tournament in October up on Lake Seminole. After this past tournament, I now sit in 48th place, so I need a top 40 finish at the final tournament, which is a 2 day event up on Lake Kissimmee in mid September. Until then, my tournament fishing will take a hiatus, as the tournament organizations in South Florida try their best not to schedule tournaments in June, July and August, due to the extreme water temperatures. Sticking fish in livewells, regardless of oxygen and aerators in that type of heat will certainly prove fatal, so once the weather breaks in September, our bass tournament season kicks back up. So, for the next few months, I’ll be saltwater fishing primarily for Tarpon in the early mornings and evenings to beat the heat! In the daytime, hoards of Peacock Bass can be caught in the Everglades and canal systems of South Florida and due to these fish being native of Brazil and the extreme tropical climates, the hotter the weather, the better. Gotta love the diversity of fishing in Florida! Until next time, tight lines and good fishing to all of you!
